Title: marlin n sailfish action at Muara trench Date: 2010-02-04 GMT: 00:50:18

You are lucky to have it last so long. Maybe near the lighthouse might be a good idea since the trawler would not trawl near there.

i also have lawa-lawa made too. my previous one was swept to but it last for 8 months. mine made of some coconut leaves but majority put big rice whitebags and made into strips of long under water flags.. the buoy put about 10m below water surface which reduce likely hood of being tangle with ships.
The trawlers are nuisance. have to find area where less likelyhood of trawle activities.

I have made many lawa-lawa(FAD) using coconut leaves in the Muara area but they are quickly swept away by the trawlers.
There used to be a lot of them just off Pelompong on the seaward side but that too is gone.
So I don't do livebait fishing much anymore.

live bait you can get at the last (furthest) green post at the muara spit entry.. you can get selar there n if lucky rumahan. usually better chance during early high tide and end of low tide. with some current. if the current too strong the chance is very low.

Lure,
Good pic also taken on board but not with me.

Congrats! Nice catch. An unusual catch. Usually it is sailfish.

Where do you get your live bait now? Most of the bamboo fads have gone further offshore.

live baiting.. the cropping was accidental. hit by ceiling fan. luckily just 2 inch lost. used to be 7'2 but now 7'. cannot cast 40g popper properly now and rod action more towards fast action. better control when handling fish.. last time take a bit longer to subdue a smaller sailfish. It took me about 5 mins to land the fish.

unfortunately the marlin cannot be released due to injury. the hook before was set in its gut before nicely set at its lip. Circle hook was used.

Recently the bait fishes have return at the muara trench. Few sailfish was spotted around.

Last thursday went out and new personal record has been achieved. I caught a marlin to my surprise. the weight exceeded my 25 kg scale.. The ripple fisher aqualia 72 has proved its worth once again..
