| Title: Ampangan CR 1 & 2 Date: 2009-09-26 GMT: 11:53:31 To: Part 1 Been hangin out with a few newbies who are into casting snakeheads and so i brought them along to bukit udal, penanjong camp, etc. to practise casting their frogs in which they did pretty not bad and i decide to put them on the test.. And recently on 22sept i brought ahoy one of the newbie to an ampangan trip where i was to be the guide. Started to move in the boat at 10.30am and had lots of strikes, lost frogs, line snapped and rod breaking...hahaha... however from a period till 6pm we manage to land a total of 7 fishes total of 2 Toman the heaviest at nearly 1kg and 5 dalak the heaviest at more then a kilo. The first newbie was so happy to catch their first dalak and toman. Part 2 Daud the other newbie was amazed at the catch that he persuade me to bring him over and try it out on his offday.... well.. you know the rest, i brought him and nic sms me at the same time asking if i am goin casting. (We also call nic if we happens to go to Tutong area and he is a good guide.) So i brought 2 of them to ampangan as early as 7.30am. We had our fair share of strikes in the early morning but at 10am the rain and strong winds hit us at 10am. I had to be careful to be fighting against a 20knot wind with the 5hp engine, so i decide to head to the nearest shelter from the strong wind which i found was not the safest. As we approach a lowly hanged branch area to take cover and heard a loud splashing as if something just jumped in the water. We look at its direction and we can clearly see a muddy shadow of a huge croc in the water. It was no log or wood we are looking at as it clearly makes a move to deeper water which was spotted by daud. I still decide not to take the risk and ask nic to untie the boat from the branch and head to the nearest island hut. At 11.30am the rain subside and off we head again exploring the ampangan bigger area. Its the usual miss strikes and no strikes until daud landed his first 800gm dalak. We spotted a school of tomans jr which are 5 to 6 inch in length and tried lure casting on them and nic manage to land one. It was almost 3.30pm and i can see that 2 fish is not gonna make our day, so i manage to land 2 fish in a row, a toman at 1kg and a dalak at 1.2kg. Nic manage to land another dalak after that at 800plus gm followed by my 900gm dalak. It was nearly 5pm and i can see both anglers are tired so we decide to cast on the way back and i decide to stop at my favourite spot before goin back onland. We also realise the water was quite cold due to the falling rain earlier on and maybe thats why the fish wont bite? WRONG! The next thing i know is daud cast manage a strike and his Fenwick rod was bending over and a sienna 4000 reel screaming as the fish was approaching the boat. TOMAN! Daud had a big smile on his face as i took a picture of Him with his first Toman weighin at 3kg plus. The fish was huge and totally had to squeeze in just nicely with the rest of the catches as we hurriedly head to land as daud decide to rear his prized catch so he wanna head home to make sure it survives. Not bad of day after all with results like that... atleast everyone had a smile on their face as they enjoy this sports. Will upload photo soon tru captain. Also be alert if you are at ampangan, on both trips i encountered crocodiles lurking around there. Snakeheads fries are found almost everywhere but i realise dalaks have numbered down but Tomans have increased but ofcourse harder to land. |
