| Title: Weekend Fishing Report Date: 2009-08-10 GMT: 03:11:09 To: Since it has not been raining, our Udang Galah trip was postpone due to the water being too salty. There were 2 options. Fishing for Ikan Lawang on the Belait river (near Bukit Sawat) would be a good idea as the water level will be down and the fish concentrated. The other option is to head offshore. I didn't like the idea of towing my aluminium boat all the way to Sg. Belait so I went offshore. Things didn't start off too smoothly. As we started loading the boat with fishing gear, the front trailer jack collapsed. Although it looked okay on the outside, it has rusted badly on the inside. All it needed was our extra weight onboard to crush it. No big deal. Just need to get a new trailer jack from the shop. We noticed a few Japanese battleships docking at Muara. Interesting. Wondered what they were doing in Brunei. We sped off and when we reached the Pelompong cut, Capt Nonoy informed me that we forgot ice. It was full speed back to RBYC to get ice. The sea was calm except for occasional big swell, probably originated from the typhoon in Taiwan. The haze was terrible. We could not see shore from Pelong rocks which is about 3 miles offshore. We could not see other boats. It made us felt lonely out there. Bottom fishing was simply great. I caught quite a number of groupers some about 2kg in size. We even caught Bebatik. We went from reef to reef as soon as fishing slows in one. The wind grew in the afternoon and by 4pm it was howling and the sea was rough. It was difficult to position the boat over the reef and impossible to reverse as the wave would crash into the boat. I didn't like the idea of bringing up the anchor so anchoring was out of the question. So we gave up bottom and head for Pelong to do some casting. We got there at the golden hour of casting. Unfortunately, there were no bites at all. We tried about 30mins without a single strike. Casting was no good but bottom was excellent. Can't wait to fish again. |

| Title: Weekend Fishing Report Date: 2009-08-04 GMT: 17:55:31 To: Capt Fred Drop by just now at your store and talk to one of the casting kaki. In the rural tutong area where you have to use boats on a small river, they manage to get 30 dalaks. All of them more then 1kg plus. Believe the biggest was 1.6kg. Plan to explore? I'm back into the passion but have to start lightly first. hehehe.. |

The catch was not quite good but surprisingly many adventurous anglers went up there to fish. Another group went to Limbang and they reported fantastic Dalak fishing. |

| Title: Weekend Fishing Report Date: 2009-07-27 GMT: 05:51:09 To: I had some overseas business guests who were keen to try fishing in Brunei. The Apollo was available so we all went off for some leisurely around the Abana reefs area. The weather was perfect. The sea was relatively calm. My expectations were low on fishing result as we were fishing on a heavily fished area. But to my surprise, the fishing turned out pretty good. Many bites and some even with 2 groupers on one line. Fish were not particularly big, mostly pan size and the biggest is a grouper about 1kg. The action is good though. The bite stops around noon so went to Pelompong to go swimming on the beach. The waves was just perfect. Other than a short rain shower, the weather was great. Richard, Ah Chong a/c and a whole bunch of them went to fish for Dalak in Limbang. They said the fishing was simply fantastic!! |
