Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-07-02 GMT: 01:49:12 To: Lures According to IGFA rules, you cannot have another person fight the fish for you. You always need help from your junior to fight and bring up the fish for you. So under the rules, you were disqualified. BTW, the rig I used is not "gang-hook". It is a standard fishing rig used in freshwater pond everywhere.

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-07-01 GMT: 10:14:38 To: Latif Wahaha the other rod didn't catch any fish cos i used 4/0 jigging hook and i let junior landed all catches. If i'm the one fighting fish think need pay double. Btw, the gang hooks guy really no standard lah....kiasu.... and time up u hook up biggest pacu, if one arm sword man there sure he disqualified u.

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-07-01 GMT: 02:40:57 To: Capt Fred Oh yeah.....he should have paid $20 instead of $10...which should have been the "PER ROD" fee of the competition....right Capt?

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-07-01 GMT: 02:14:01 To: Lures In that case, shouldn't gang hooks rig be attracting the bigger ones...as opposed to our single hook setups only. Yeah, you are the overall winner for forking out the highest amount of $39 as I forked out $34(after the $20 subsidy :) ). BUT...as I asked earlier.....what do we do with those PACUS? They occupy too much a space in the freezer. Ciao!

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-07-01 GMT: 01:41:39 To: Latif Haha, big bait big fish and the scent congregate other species. Eh, in terms of max weight i win lah i paid 39++.

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-07-01 GMT: 00:43:38 To: Lures Lures/Capt, Personally, I believe that those Mustad DYNA Braid is just not as good. I used to have quite a few of them before and noticed that they snapped quite easily....even while casting lures..small poppers, stickbaits. I threw all of them and respooled with other braids e.g Fireline XDS, Power Pro, Fins and now using Spiderwire EZ Braid.....without a much problem of them snapping. Additionally.....was wondering how come I only managed to catch PACUS....while you guys caught other varieties also? And....its not one of those "good to eat" fish ....is it? Ciao!

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-06-29 GMT: 14:57:29 To: Lures Excuse me, Mr. Lures. Have you ever heard of "setting the Drag"? It is very funny that our CNN, Guru, TCK also don't set drag. Your Lock Drag technique on light tackle will not work very well with the Pacus. Haha.

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-06-29 GMT: 02:17:08 To: Capt Fred Capt/Lures, THANKS for the fun! Aiyo!!!! How to land such biggies with 8lbs line. Even 12-15lbs lines also snapped?!! My second hook up was quite SIZEABLE as it was showing some acrobatics but the 12lbs line snapped!!! Furthermore, the Pacus have got nice sets of teeth....comparable to their cousin the Piranha....only flatter. OnIy upon your advise, changed the leader to 25lbs flourocarbon....which result the fish landings BUT even then, the leader got serious bite marks! Ciao!

Title: Pond fishing competition Date: 2009-06-29 GMT: 01:33:08 To: I got there a bit after one about the same time as Lures but Latif was there a bit earlier. We are grouped shaded under the trees as the sun was at all its might around midday. We all use the same bait provided by the fish farm operator which is basically expired bread from Gardenia. Latif and Lures had quite a lots of hookup but very few fish landed due to line breaking. At 3:45pm it was a close tie between me and Lures with our biggest Pacus weighing in at 2kg. Just at the very last moment (before 4pm as per the rules), Latif hooked up to a big Pacu which weighs in at 3.4Kg. He won the competition. Well done. Congrats! We should do this again sometime but this time with line class restriction like 6lbs or even 4lbs.

Title: Pond fishing can be great family fun Date: 2009-06-08 GMT: 12:39:42 To: Lures Ahem...Don't know who is the one who TC. I think some people have to use heavy duty line (like 20lb) for pond fishing is because some people don't have fishing skills. BTW they don't have GT in the pond. Hehe. My main line was 8lb and my leader line was 12lb Suffix Flourocarbon.

Title: Pond fishing can be great family fun Date: 2009-06-08 GMT: 11:13:24 To: Latif Don't listen to him TC only, last trip my 20lbs mono snap few times. Do you familiar with gang hooks (come with a spring coil which ties many small chinu hooks with red nylon)? last trip almost all hooks gone. I think they release some biggies in there toman i guess. Fish there several times only this trip rod flying out few times and line keep snapping.

Title: Pond fishing can be great family fun Date: 2009-06-08 GMT: 07:16:09 To: Latif Actually, you don't need anything fancy. I only use a 1000size spinning reel loaded with Spiderwire 8lb class lines. A 8-12lb line rod would be fine. If you want to go to the 4lb line class category, a cheap and good rod would be the Shimano FX rod. Match that with a 1000 size reel. We do carry 4lb lines but not sure if any left in stock at CFFS.

How about the rod? Smallest/litest rod I am currently having is a PE0.8 Xzoga Mastery, which mite be overkill. What rig setup to use for pond fishing? Ciao! |

Latif, Maybe next time we can have a mini competition there. Put in $10 each and who catches the heaviest fish wins the jackpot. |

Title: Pond fishing can be great family fun Date: 2009-06-01 GMT: 15:22:06 To: I asked Lures if he and his kid would like to join us at Louis Fishing Farm. I told him that we would meet around 2pm. I SMS him at 130pm to find out where to meet. He said he is already there. Haha, that fella have to go early to make sure that he catches more fish that I. There were only Lures family and us. I set up the rod for my kid to fish. It was only a short while later that he brought up a nice patin. I tried fishing using a fly rod with a tiny fly. No good so I change to bread. It was only a short while later that I hooked onto a Pacu. It was great fun fighting it on a fly rod. It weigh in at 3.4Kg. Lures at the other side of the pond was also landing Patins and Keli (No karate for once). Surprisingly, I only caught a few Tilapia. There was plenty of action to keep the kids entertained. This would be a great way to introduce kids to fishing. Only problem was this time, the fish were all biggies.
