Title: Muara deep trench 03 March Date: 2009-03-06 GMT: 06:27:49
To: Languran
I used to fish at the trench regularly. Hairtails were almost always there but what we go for were tengirris.
Most of the time we go there is for jigging. We nicknamed the trench the "poor man's dropoff". Easy access and the short distance from shore which even small sampans can fish. It is also a place where I used to bring "jigging trainees". Almost always successful with hairtail.

One of the best jigs to use is the cheapo luminous jig from Mr.Lures. Use a treble hook and you never need to use wire leader.

A week before the drop of trip, there were few YFTs jumping.. usually during the fast current time. This week i did not see any. Yesterday went again to trent an the catch was ok too.. 3 snappers, 2 languran and 2 barracuda ( one of if 8kg). I lost a lot of line due to the barracudas and the hairtails. more than 10 lines were cut. So why don't you go to the trench this weekend. if you want to jig, be prepare to but on wire and jig weight of 250g long type would be ok with the recent current.

Nice catch. Did you happen to spot any YFTs?

Our tuesday catch... the best way to catch them using apollo style and drifting from the shallow to the deepest.

When we were there on Sunday, there were lots of boats but all of them were bored and sleeping. Fish were just not biting. The wind and waves were from different directions making it difficult to drift with engine control.
Today, the sea is super calm but have to work.

Went out with my dad to do some bottom with him. the sea was calm and the current was perfct to do bottom drifting. for the past two week, the fish was bitting there and yesterday good to. we lost few tight line due to toothy hairtail, baracuda and tenggiri there. manage to land 6 snapper in the range of 2~3kg, tarpon and languran on bottom only. this time, iwas too lazy to jig but the boat near by manage to jig some tenggiri, languran.
